I have 33" tire on right now. V6 btw. If I regear to 4.88 (i think) to bring it back to stock will this improve my gas milege? I'm losing about 2 gallons from before. and what about my speedo will that read the correct speed again?
Theoretically, yes it could improve highway mileage, but it takes more throttle to accelerate with bigger tires, which hurts mileage. Also, wider/taller tires provide more rolling and wind resistance, which also hurts mileage.
So, overall, it probably hurts mileage more than it helps.
I had the same dilemma when upsizing my tires. Here's the deal. If you do all your driving around town, you are going to lose mileage. If you drive on the interstate, chances are that you are giong to gain mileage. But your odometer will tell you differently. Don't worry, you are actually going FARTHER than what your odometer tells you. One more thing, any time you hit a hill, it takes a lot more to turn bigger tires. Flatland is great on mileage though!
Before i would fill up every 5-6 days with just work and home. now i have to fill up every 4 days 5 if i'm lucky. Wind resistance since my truck is higher, heavier tires and wheels and California Traffic. is killing my mpg's
The problems with bigger tires is unsprung weight. Most people when they go bigger get M/Ts too and they are alot heavier. My A/Ts and M/Ts are the same size, but i get about 21 alls and 17.5 muds
