Default Anti sway bar

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to to disconect there front anti sway bar when off roading. I know it has been done alot with solid axle front ends but I have never seen it done on an IFS.

Hi! Actually I've never heard of it on off-road trucks with a solid front axle, but it does great things (disconnected) with our IFS trucks. I've measured between up to 3 inches up-travel while disconnecting the s/bar than unconnected. I'm about to get some sway-bar quick-disconnects to make things easier. I hope this helps. Bray

this is a hard description to write! i hope it is understandable.

the sway bar acts like a torsion bar between the front wheels on an IFS truck. as one wheel's coil spring compresses (ie: the outside wheel on a hard corner) the sway bar slows the compression of the spring and reduces the sway felt in the vehicle. this also helps re-level the vehicle as the load shifts to a more neutral position (ie: comming out of the hard corner)

dis-connecting the sway bar allows the suspension components to move more freely since the suspension is no longer trying to 'twist' the sway bar. therefore, you get more travel out of a disconnected IFS. just be careful that the travel gained doesn'd bind up the CV joints. use disconnected sway bar only offroad

also, re-connecting the sway bar is HIGHLY recommended before driving around on the streets since your truck will handle differently at speed with the sway bar disconnected.

did this help?

Cool, I would also like to know where to get disconnects.

And another way to discribe a sway bar is that it connects both sides of the front suspension so that one side can not move up or down without the other side moving too.

At least not much.

This makes an independant suspension not realy independant at all.

By disconnecting the sway bar each wheel can move up or down without effecting the other.

This is great for twisting your truck when off roading like if your front left tire was up on a rock or a stump and so was your right rear tire, all 4 of your tires would be more likely to stay on the ground.

Ahhh! I get it. since cars and trucks are meant to be ridden more on pavement that offroading, the sway bar decrease body roll and more stable will driving on freeways. and cornering in mall parking lots.
