Default auto gear selector moves while truck is in motion

I just got a 2002 Taco PreRunner with a 2.7L Auto.

While it is new to me, I was able to drive it when it was new (a hand-me-down of sorts..). The shift selector moves while traveling down the road, as you are traversing bumps in the road which seems kind of weird to me. My first generation 4-runner has the same type of shifter but exhibits no such behavior.

Is this normal for a Taco with 2 wheel drive or should I look into a motor/transmission mount problem? The truck always did this and has never been in an accident or any other type of off-roading..

Absolutely, completely normal. Except for the part where the shifter moves while driving...Just kidding. It's normal.

It's normal. But what is rare is that you have a 1st gen 4-Runner with an auto tranny! It should do the same thing though. There are those that have had their shifters go into nuetral while wheeling. There is a linkage that isn't that hard to get to at your transmission (both models) that you may just need to loosen up and let the linkage 'relax' to keep from binding. But most don't pose this threat unless the body has been lifted. Bray

How about some pics of the 4-Runner? I'll give you my e-mail if you want.
