got a couple of questions that i would like someone that knows what they r talking about to help answer. i have a 1996 3.4L Tacoma. i have been looking at several suspension lifts for it and one is a 4 in and one is a 6 in for the same price. so i figured i would probably buy the 6 in so that way if i decided to put bigger tires on it later... the lift would already be there. so my question is... at what tire size would i have to change the gears on my truck. the 6 in lift is saying to put 315/75R16 on it. which comes out to 34" tires. i dont want to have to change the gears out quite yet... so what do size tires u think i should run on it to be safe???

35's aren't going to fit with even a 6-inch bracket drop lift like Fabtech. You'll still need at least a 1-2 inch body lift to clear them with mild wheeling. As Bruce said, some thought should be put into regearing with 33's(w/3.4 --4.56-4.88) but you will have to go with 5.29's or so for 35's. Just my .02. Bray
I have 285/70/17's which comes out to be 33's and i'm really considering regearing. My taco switches out of overdrive everytime i'm cruising and speed up a bit and when i'm going up hill. I'm worried that my tranny is going to suffer if i don't regear soon!
There right about fitting 35's the wheel openings just are'nt wide enough to fit anything bigger than 33's so you have to get the truck way up off the tires to keep from rubbing.
About the gears for serious wheelling you would want to regear if you go any higher than 32's or 33's, but if you never realy go off road its not a big deal I newe a guy who had 38'S with stock gears, allthough he never used 5th gear even at 70mph.
