metalic noise

I'm hearing a metalic noise which sounds like two 14" wrenches clanging together. It appears to me to be coming from the steering column. I take 25 miles of dirt road each day because of my job location and the noise developed about 4 months after purchasing the truck (one year old at the time). I've taken it to the dealer twice. The 1st time they did nothing
because they couldn't duplicate it. So I took a mechanic for a spin on the dirt roads so he could hear it and (so I thought) the dealership would be authorized to find the problem during my next oil change. They looked under the truck again during my 2nd visit and once again said they couldn't find any problem and said they would not look inside the steering column because it would take 3 or 4 man hours.
If I could find someone else with a similar problem maybe I could convince the dealership to fix the noise, especially if I'm correct about the steering, column as that could develop into a dangerous situation.

Find another dealership. Warranty work pays well and most are happy to do it. Just keep in it, if the truck is about to go out of warranty, atleast you made a several claims about it.

It is very odd, sounds like nothing I know of. Are you turning when it happens or going straight? maybe take part of your lower dash apart so you can see more when you are driving it?
