I have been researching lifting my 2004 Toyota Tacoma DBL Cab TRD. I have found the FAbtech and Donahue Racing lifts to be the best. Do any of you have either one of these lifts on your Tacoma's. What are you responses in relation to ride and ease of install.
I did the Donahoe Signature Series 2.5-3" on my 2002 Ext. cab V6 and I'm pleased with the product. You may hear some movement in the front shocks as they are a racing design. I installed the Deaver full leaf springs with the urethane bushings instead of the add-a-leaf. That along with the 5100 series revalved Bilsteins are the ticket. I had a local shop do the installation for me and it took them about 4 hours to do the entire front and rear. That was a better option for me.
I'd go with the Fabtech setup. They're flooding the market for the newer Toy's...meaning less waiting for shipments to come in from the wherehouse ie more accessability to parts. I'm using the King Coilovers myself. They're a bit more expensive than most of the front coilover type lifts but I haven't had a problem with them. They're not noisy, have a smooth ride but can handle bad environments easily. They're not too stiff. I've got a 3" lift on the fronts and I have had people ride in my truck and they always comment how smooth the ride is. There isn't really a perfect combination as far as brand name goes. I like to research and buy what works the best. Kings work for me but I seriously am looking at the 6" lift from fabtech I haven't heard any complaints, but on the 4wd models there are a lot of drawbacks= CV joint angles, calipers sticking out too far limiting rims (I don't like spacers or body lifts) It's usable but as far as practicality but if your going to spend good money for something, it better be the last time you buy those same parts not having to buy another set because they faded or broke because of design flaws. Sometimes you pay more because you get more but thats not always the case. Hope yours turns out that way you want it to. Happy Trails!!
I have the same set up as Trianimal. I'm very happy with it. I did some research (2 yrs...money issues...not having any) I was really impressed with Donahoe! If they could run Baja and not break i want them. Only problem is that they're the most expensive one out there. The way i look at it is, I do some offroading, maybe 3,4 times a year, BUT I plan on keeping my truck until it craps out probably 15 years from now. Sorry it's a toyota so probably 25 years.
By the way the me and my buddy did the back end in 3 hours including the exhaust, and i did the coilovers in an hour. First coilover was 45 min(followed directions to the "T") the second 15 min. EASY!
David, where the he!! have you been? Where have I been for that matter? Good to hear from you though!
Oh, Donahoes beat Fagtech all to he!!. I have cheap SAW's cranked way up and they do 90 degree chiqane's at 60 mph + and handle better off road. I can't complain for $389 shipped slightly used. Bray
P.S. Kings are not included with the F/T lifts. The springs are blue though! LOL so is everything else.
What's up brayboy! Good to see/read familiar faces/tagnames!
Just recently i cranked my hoes up to 2 3/8". It was slightly rubbing a bit when fully turned and hitting a dip (Bad tire/wheel combo for Tacome 17" x 9" 4 1/2" backspace). The ride is a bit stiffer but not that noticable and it doesn't rub anymore!
Oh by the way, Sand and Mud terrain tires don't mix. I have to admit though that i made a lot of newbie mistakes that day.
Well good to see you back here too bud! I haven't heard from Redtoy in at least a year to a year & 1/2. I have his old e-mail address. I guess I should try it. He's been militia since I've known him so I guess I've been worried and procrastinating. Thanks for replying! Bray
FAB TECHs got some good stuf but as far as I know Donahoe is the only one offering new rear leaf springs with there kits insted of add-a-leavs, blocks or shackles. And a true leaf spring lift is far better.
