My headlight finally went out in my 01 tacoma. I looked at it and it has a rubber boot. when I pulled it off it wouldnt come off all the way and I could see a little clip. anyone replaced a bulb yet? any help would be appreciated.

I have a '99 but I bet it's no different than your '01. I've done it once,but forgot a little about it so I went outside (had to hurry, it's raining & lightening) but the clip-looking thing you saw is just the back of the bulb bracket. I think if you rotate this housing left (to the driver's side of the truck, It will allow you to pull the housing out to replace the bulb. Your owners manual should help you out in this situation. Pull plug from the back of the bulb, pull the rubber boot off. Then there is a spring loaded clip you have to pop loose and the bulb will come loose from the housing.
The housing/enclosure remain in position and the bulb and H4 if I recally correctly, comes out the back. The bulb has three alignment tabs on it, so reinstalling it with the correct orientation is easy. Then reset the clip, the rubber boot and plug it back in.
Another note for your fist time changing the bulbs. DONT TOUCH the glass on the bulb. Very important. If you do, the oils on your fingers will stick to the glass. The oil will heat up and cause the bulb to fail.
yeah and the clips are a pain in the butt, the first few times i had trouble with it, but i can do it with my eyes closed now, I kept buying those high output bulbs, they are nice, but didn't last long
