OK, so I'm planning on buying my very first Yota! WOOHOO!! Here's what I want it for....Daily Driver, hauling lumber and stuff like that for home upgrades yada yada. Some light offroad use, nothing major maybe some logging roads and such. I would like the ability to tow a small utility trailer with a dirt bike or 4wheeler on it and maybe a small pop up camper (they are pretty light) It HAS to be Ex. cab, 4X4 5spd manual years 95.5 - 97 SO....what engine is right for me. The 4cyl's are much easier to find and I hear they are more realiable than the 3.4 6cyl. Is the 2.7L gonna have enough pep for me to get up hills without down shifting like a mad man? I don't need a powerhouse but I don't like feel like I'm being dragged down either.
Let me re-phrase a little......I wouldn't say I WILL be towing, I'd say I might occasionally tow, like once or twice a year. Otherwise maybe a bike or wheeler in the bed once in a while.
My 2.7 has no problems towing anything. It can handle a car on a dolly just fine, but car on a dual axle trailer is a little much (not enough brake!). Have fun looking for your truck, I love mine and tow stuff with it around once a week.
well here in ny i had a 97 4x4 tacoma 2.7l i hauled all the firewood i could pack in it no problem and thats coming from off road to home great truck great motor now i have a 05 trd off road 4x4 4.0
