Default Changing wheel size?

My girlfriend has an '01 Tacoma with 265/70/16's, which comes out to basically be a 31/10.5/16. However, the price for her size is way higher (+35% or so) than for 31/10.5/15. So, I was thinking she could buy some 15x8 American Racing 767's for pretty cheap and then go with the cheaper tire size. My question is if there's any drawbacks to this that I'm not thinking of (she likes the idea of the black rims). Also, what are the proper bolt circle and backspacing specs?

Thanks.

Bolt circle is 6 on 5.5". I think the BS is 4.75".

Problem is caliper clearance with 15" rims. Toyota used 16" rims to clears larger front brakes, so there are few 15" rims that will fit and definitely not any that would be cheaper than spending a little more for tires.

What tire are you considering that has such a big price difference between those sizes?

Damn. I forgot about the brakes. I guess that won't work. I was looking at the BFG AT's. They're about $120 vs $165 for those sizes. Thanks for saving me a lot of hassle.

Whoa don't lose hope yet. I have 15" rims on my 03 with 1/4" wheel spacers from Pep-Boys and have had no problems in over 25,000 miles.

Many of us have made the switch from 16" to 15" rims for the reasons you mentioned as well as for other reasons.

It's just a matter of finding the right wheel. You want to find one where the holes in the wheel will clear without having to run spacers. I have Allied Daytona's in 15x8, 6 on 5.5 with a 3.75 backspacing and they work perfectly. There are others that will fit as well, but for $36 each, these were perfect for my needs.
