Default Tacoma new vs. old

I had a 80 model Toyota 4x4 it was a work horse. The new ones sure seem plush and "citified" but I am looking at getting one.

Are the pre '04 models with the steel bed more desirable than the new plastic beds..

I use 4wd quite a bit in the winter, is the automatic or standard transmission more desirable?

Any comments at all would help. Tacoma or Tundra ????

Thanks,
Pat

I've got the new 05' tacoma /dbl cab/SR5/4x4/TRD
the truck is Bad ass, I know a lot of old school toyota guy's don't like the new stuff....they don't know what they're missing....
the mileage is 17 city - 21 hwy, I really think it gets a little more than that, though. about the bed of the truck,it is awesome, all kind's of storage, deck rail system, receptacle, and it's not stuff that you will never use, I have used everything in that bed, a lot already. Not to mention the truck's performance!! I'm in love with the thing..
KILLER TRUCK!!!BUY IT !! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

I got an 02 Manual Taco, I live in K Falls Oregon where I am constantly driving on 3-4 inches of ice or a foot of powder, i love it, i had a auto Jeep Wrangler last year and it did great too, i love the stick in the slick stuff cause you can use the tranny as your brakes instead of hittin the brakes where you gonna slid all over the place.

I had an 05 4X4 regular cab 4 cylinder, I really liked the truck a lot. It got great gas mileage. The only reason that I don't still have it is because I bought a boat that was just to big for the truck to handle. Other wise I had no plans at all to get rid of it ever. I had no problems with the composit bed. I am not a contractor or any thing like that but I did use it to haul stuff for home projects, like gravel for leveling blocks for building a patio, lumber and other stuff.

Tacoma or Tundra is up to you. I personally think that 90% of the people that drive full size trucks don't need them but that is just my HO.

That Tacoma was the MT Truck of the year. You should be able to find one for a reasonable price at the 02 year range. Check with AutoTrader. The new auto's are just fine btw.

I have a '05 2.7L 4x4 Access cab. The composite bed KICKS MAJOR ASS. The truck is fast, manueverable, and I get 22-23 mpg consistently w/ a 4x4!! The interior is an awful graphite, which is rediculous, should be black-I didn't want a friggin Camry interior, this is a godamn truck for God's sakes (my only gripe about this amazing truck).

Buy an '05 because they made em bigger and more standard options-the bed is a big plus and the 5 speed 2.7L is geared way nice.
