Im looking to upgrade to some coil overs. I know that donahoes are the best, but they are kinda expensive for me. I was looking at myabe some SAWS. I found some used one w/ 3k miles on em for about 500. They are the 2.0" diameter ones. Is that any good,or should i be going the 2.5" ones? I'm not a hard core off-roader and im just looking to improve my off-road capabilities and the handling of my truck. I currently have the stock trd shocks with the 2.5" donahoe coil spacers. I remember there being a review of all the coil over replacements for the tacomas somewhere on this site but i cant seem to find it anymore. Anyone know where it went? Any suggestion or advice on replacing my front coil overs with some aftermarket ones would be very appreciated, thanks.
For mild to moderate wheeling, the 2" SAW's will do you just fine and you will be amazed at the ride improvement coming from spacers.
When buying used coilovers, look at them carefully for signs of extreme use. Dents and oil leaks are things to consider as well as pitting on the shaft or bent shafts. Parts for these things can be expensive, so make sure you know what you are buing.
Service the coilovers before you intall them, including recharging the nitrogen so that you get the full effect.
What do you mean by servicing the coil overs? Whats that include? I knew they took nitrogen from reading the reviews and how to's to install them on our trucks on this website and custom tacos. They only got 3k miles on em.
The thing is the coil overs are not near me so i cant see them in person. I've only seen one picture of them and they look like there in good shape.
Hey Bruce! When Rob says serviced, he means rebuilt. These C/O's are rebuildable. For $500 they should be like new and almost never off-road! I got a pair of SAW's for $385 shipped from E-Bay(Poly-Performance). They are a reputable company and had rebuilt the C/O's. As for rebuilding these C/O's, look at, OK, for some reason I can't privide you a link to what servicing a rebuildable coil-over is like. So please go to www.bajataco.com and look up his suspension and the 2.0 Sway-a-way rebuild. It will help. Bray
Did you get the 2.0 saws too Bray? If you did how do you like them? I tried running a search on ebay for these coil overs but i cant seem to find them on there. Yah he said that they were never taken off road either. I got some more pics from him and they looks really clean and brand new. Except some scrape marks at the bottom where he said the wrench or something scraped it when raising/lowering the ride height. Thanks for the help guys.
i have a set of 2.0 sway away coilovers and i love them very easy to install and the ride was a millon times better than my stock ones and got even better when i put on a total chaos upper arm . they hold up pretty well to off road abuse. i used to go out in the river bed a lot when i lived in lompoc
Sorry for the late post Bruce. Yes mine are 2.0's. Mine are cranked a little over 2" and are on the stiff side but I like them that way. That guys a regular on there. I don't think he wheels that truck very hard. Since you're going to have to pay shipping, why not offer him $400 + shipping. You can get a new set for araound $600 i think. I hope this helps. Bray
Yah that price suggestion helps. I was thinking about it when i was working cause i've seen other saws go for like 350 but it was a fresh rebuild like yours. Which you got for a similar price. Was hoping i could talk him down some.
I wanna put mine at either an even ride height for the front and back, or slightly higher in the front. Ill probably put them lower then the 2.5" that my spacers are giving me right now. How much should i crank them if i get them to make it even? Something like 2.25"?
I cant seem to figure out how to get back on the river bed anymore in santa maria. They blocked off the only way i knew how to get on it. Oh well i just got drive around my friends farm in Gary. Out in the boonies and lots of mud. Plus hes got a big beast of a truck to yank me out if i need to be.
How much you think these things are ganna cost to be shipped? They're probably kinda heavy.
Bruce, I would just take before & after install measurements to get an idea of how hight you're lifting it. If you reach a deal, tell hime you want the spanner wrench that came with them for adjusting ride-height. If he doesn't have one, that might be the reason for the scarring around the adjustment collar(or just trying to adjust them with wheels and tires on the truck is kinda tight). You can get one of these from Sway-Away or Polyperformance.com. I hope this helps. Bray
Is there anyway to increasethe performance of the rear suspension without providing any lift? I dont want it to be lifted at all, id rather it be a tiny bit lower if anything. I was thinking like myabe better shocks, or better springs.
