Sure, but it's going to depend upon what you mean by "performance of the rear suspension". For me that means more flex, I am not sure what it means for you.
You can always replace the shocks, you have many choices available to you depending upon what you are trying to accomplish.
You can also get custom leaf packs made, but it isn't cheap. Then you can specify the height and firmness that they provide.
Yah, i want better shocks and for it to be less freakin bouncy. Its like a diving board. Who makes some good quality shocks for the rear that are replacements for a stock 4wd tacoma?
I've been thinking the same thing. I want to lift my truck 3" though. BUT, I would rather have it ride a little softer in the back. I rarely haul anything more than a couple hunderd pounds of camping gear, so I'm not worried about the weight aspect of it. I'm just tired of my truck crow-hopping every time I drive over something as measely as a manhole cover!
