Default Intake Silencer Mod

Has anyone done this for our tacomas? The write up are for 4runners, but they have the same engine as our tacomas and was wondering if it would be the same. Also anyone notice a difference in performance/mileage with this mod if they have done it with the deckplate mod?
Thanks,
Bruce

Keep in mind that there may be a downside to this mod if you wheel in wet conditions. Removing the resonator box and "J" tube will remove the low part of the intake that has been known to catch water before it could be ingested.

We had a rig get dipped a couple of weeks ago and when we dismantled the intake, we found the "J" tube and resonator box had captured a pretty fair amount of water that would have otherwise gone into the engine.

The "J" tube especially acts as the lowest point in the intake and with it's position over the exhaust, it can trap water and allow it to steam off harmlessly, rather than get sucked in.

It might not be an issue for your use, but keep in mind that the folks who who wrote those are street guys who are unlikely to ingest water.

Well, im not a really hardcore off-roader. I go to the dunes and through farm fields and stuff. I dont really go through deep water stuff. Myabe just puddles that are like at the most only go up to my wheels. Also wouldnt i be safe with the deck plate mod closed, or is there another place for water to get sucked in?

You are probably just fine. I just wanted to give you a heads up if you were doing frequent stream crossings or the like. It takes a fair amount of water before you are in danger if ingesting it.

I also found this on the website. Its a fuel atomizer. It sounds like a good idea and if it really helps with mileage it would be wonderful. Just curious if any of you have done it?

HA HA !! I started this same posting on the toyota suv & trucks board!

I'm going to be doing it this week. I'll post results when I'm done with it.

As for the J tube, I was concerned about it, at first. But, I'm not too wild when I off-road, and my J tube still looked brand new on the inside = no water marks what-so-ever.
And, like I said in the other post, their measurements didn't match my truck. I don't know if this is a difference between taco / 4runners, or what.

I didn't want to cut stuff, or spend much. I did the one option with the PVC caps. I just got it all finished up today. It does look alot less cluttered now when I pop the hood! I haven't noticed a great HP gain (only drove 2 miles so far, I'd guess it does about 1/2 what the deck plate does), but the sound is incredible. If you're jonesing for that V8 whine when you mash the gas, this mod will give it to you.

I'll get a couple hundred miles on it this weekend and put up another comment.

It was really easy to do, and personally, it was worth the $6.50 just to get that sweet sound. So, even if I don't get any more power out of it, I'll leave it on.

A side-note, I'm still running stock exhaust, and I hear that when you do these mods to the intake, you need to upgrade the exhaust to get the full effect. Maybe that's why I'm not noticing much . . .
