| | | clutch start cancel?? This is probably a dumb question but what the heck is that "clutch start cancel" button in my dash for. Maybe the better question is what exactly does it do, besides bypass the cluth switch. I have a 99 tacoma 4x4 5sp. The explanation in the manual is pretty much useless consisting of "allows vehicle to be driven out of difficult situations"....uh...ok....Thanks to anyone who can help! |

| | Re: clutch start cancel?? Um i think its where you dont need to push in the clutch to start the truck. I think you just have to be in 1st gear and then start it by turning the ignition. |

| | | Re: clutch start cancel?? Your absolutely right on that part, but why have that option? Also it says in the manual to never routinely (spelled, sorry) start the truck using that switch. When I got the truck at about...42,000 miles, the letters on that switch were just about worn off. The truck needed a new starter when I got it. So, I still need to know why they put that switch there, or what its really used for. I never really tried it. I think that if you push the switch, and start the engine with it in gear it will crank real slow in gear and kindof craw. Still not sure though. Any thoughts? |

| | Re: clutch start cancel?? OK, it says not to start your truck everyday like this. That makes since to me. The button can be used to start (or more accurately, restart) your treuck after it has stalled on an up-hill incline so you do not have to use all 3 of your feet (wait, you only have 2 feet!) This is the reason for the button. Keep one foot on the brake and one on the gas. Push this button while cranking the truck and get yourself up the hill without having a rolling crash in the direation we can't see too well. I hope this helps. | | Re: clutch start cancel?? I have used mine on steep hills, so you don't pop the clutch, if you would you might lose traction and slip. You just push the button and turn the key, if you turn it long enough the engine will start. Dont run longer than 30 sec without giving starter a 30 sec break, otherwise you will burn up starter. Prolly what happened to yours already. I used it once when i went fast into water and the engine died, it wasn't the smartest thing to do in retrospect, because if i would have hydrolocked the engine it would have bent valves, but it worked to pull me out of the mud/water hole and then on dry ground i tore apart the intake and cleaned out the water, it eventually ran. It also helps when rock climbing, it allows you to turn the wheels slower than 4 low at 1000 rpms (normal state of 4 low no gas) It helps get better traction. |

| | Re: clutch start cancel?? Hey Haireball, what many call burning up their starters are really just needing these cheap little contacts. They are worth the money saved compared to a new starter. Our starters are high-quality and do nor need replacing very often. I hope I didn't come off sounding like a A-hole. Bray
P.S. Don't forget to read the intall of these too. |

| | Re: clutch start cancel?? No just people tend to crank their starters for a long period of time, and the starter isn't made to take that kind of abuse, overall not just Yotas | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
