Have you checked that there's no binding in the drivetrain? Checked and changed your diff, tranny and transfer case fluids since you've had it? Are you using the proper weight motor oil for the climate where you live? I put a lift kit and larger tires on my 2000 Tacoma and it dropped from about 21MPG to 18MPG. 14MPG is absurd. Good luck with figuring it out.
That sucks, I have a 2001 v6, and i got 20mpg on the freeway at 75-80 on a 300mile trip to sierra summit. After doing an exhaust and intake i got like 21.5 to san diego. You can try switching to synthetic blend motor oil or full synthetic. It helped me out a little bit. going to synthetic blend. Switching to full next oil change.
I must have gotten bad gas for the last 6 weeks.
I must mention I have the v6 5 speed, anyway this last tank I figured I got 20 mpg.
The tank before I got 17 mpg, the previous one gave me 14 the gas mileage had been dropping and I made those part replacements like I had said in my first post.
I have problems if i go over 70 mph, my milage drops like a rock, I got 21-22mpg highway if i kept it under 70 and 16mpg at 75 mph. Now i have a 2" lift and mts and get about 19 highway with 73k
I have a 96 tacoma sx with a 3" toytec spacer. It averages around 16mpg after lifting it only because its not aligned yet but once I do that it should be back to normal. Does anyone know if the tornado would work? (to save on mileage) Also how many miles could be on a truck before it is to late for synthetic?
I think this weekend I will try my damdest to keep it down under 70 mph.
I took the scanner home last night and found no codes. I also observed the action from both oxigen sensers and I guess all is ok.
I wonder if the front drive could be dragging the truck down or something.
Anyway I also dont think switching to synthitic oil is the answer. I want to correct the problem and then start to change stuff. I got mileage in the 20s without synthitic oil when I first got this truck.
I'll let you know.
I had a 1997 toyota pickup with a 4 cyl 5 speed 2by and got 34 mpg.
