| | | a/c problems My 96 Tacoma V6 4x4 has a problem and was wondering if anyone could give some advice. The A/C works well at times, other times it does not. It is very cold when I head out in morning but for no reason, and at no particular distance it just shuts off and blows only humid, warm air?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Tom |

| | Re: a/c problems I'm no A/C guy, and I'm sure someone here will know more exactly, but I've heard that when you're too low on freon, the pump will shut itself down, as a safety precaution. The freon carries oil that lubes the parts in your A/C system.
If you weren't having this problem last year, then it may indicate a leak. (Providing I'm right)
I dunno how much I helped, but good luck! I don't know what it's supposed to be like in Tx this week, but here in Idaho we're looking at 98 by Wed. |

| | Re: a/c problems I apolagize if this post is late, but I'm with Monkey on this. Get you system re-charged and checked for leaks but at that age, a re-charge should do the trick. Bray |

| | | Re: a/c problems Is there a squeaking sound coming from the engine area when the AC is switched on. If there is, it could be a loose drive belt for the Ac compressor. It may just need to be tightened. If it's cracked and/or glazed it may need to be replaced. Cost $14 and 30 mins. Happened to me. I was getting poor AC performance and squeaking so I replaced the belt and now it's fine.

| | | Re: a/c problems Thanks for the feedback. I thought about the low freon thing but just was afraid I would only get hosed when I took it in for a diagnosis... I'll keep you posted. |

| | Re: a/c problems Also double check the wiring, mine didn't work this season, so i started playing around and found a wire off, i prolly left it off when i replaced the timing belt..opps...
You can get R-134a at a autoparts store for about 20 that will let you fill your system, (you want the liquid end not gas end) and fill the low pressure side of the system not more than 40 psi, they also make lube oils that are worth putting in if the system is 5+ years and never been touched, and leak finder dyes-but you need a black light to see the leak
Just don't breathe the stuff in, it will make you perminatley high and act retarded | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
