i just bought a 98 limited 5spd w/85k highway miles. It was my brothers and it is as close to be being mint that is possible. I want it to be a project for me I drive a 91 toy that is mint as a 91 can be. The 98, I want to start with more power. i would appreciate any advice you can give me to get started. I know a new exhaust is where I will be starting, but my backround is with the older trucks and that stuff is easy. What can I do to get more horse power out this V6? and how? Did your '91 have the 3.0? What did you do to up the performance of the motor? Pretty much everything applies to both the 3.0 & the 3.4 unless you want to supercharge it. Bray
the charger is the way to go check out Gadgetonline.com or you can even turbo it from STS other then that it is all little power gains(headers, exhaust, cam, etc. RED
I also think that a supercharger would be a good place to start. I dont think that TRD offers one for that engine anymore. I think that engine went from 194 stock to 240 hp with the supercharger.
Id then go with a cat-back exhaust, chip, headers, free flow cat and a K&N FIPK.
You might find that the 3.4L has all the power you need. I used to own a '91 4Runner with a 3.0L V6 and the power was OK. I recently drove a '00 4Runner with the 3.4L V6 and I was impressed. That 4Runner was very quick. I think it could have smoked my '99 F-150 with a 250 hp 5.4L V8!
The 3.4L was an impressive little engine and its something that was a long overdue.

Thanks for all of the suggestions fellas. On my 91 I had the 4 banger and it took some doing to get 175hp out of it. I'm looking at a 2" raise and going with the TRD exhaust front to back. If they make one. What about cams? What chip should I look into? Im looking at running 31's so im not sure that Im going to go with the lift. I can get American Racing rims dirt cheap through work, but I dont want to get out of control with the lift. I'm pretty sure that 2" will keep factory geometry.
Any more suggestions would be helpfull. I used LCE products on the 91 ans was really happy with it. Since this is a newer truck I was wondering if any of you had any good places to get quality parts at. PLEASE DON'T SAY NWOR. those guys are cock suckers!!!
there IS NO CHIPS THAT WORK worth the :censored::censored::censored::censored: for your truck. and yes if you have the 3.4 they still have the chargers. the cam thing has yet to make it to the tacoma sceen like it has in the 22r and 22re. also do the deckplate mod don't get an air intake. RED
