Default quiet it down

My 2001 double cab has a loud engine. i bought this truck trying to get a quiet ride. does anyone have any suggestions of what to do to make it a little bit quieter. do i need to grease the fan, new belts, or what. it has 66,000 miles on it.

What kind of noise is it when you say it is "loud"?

If you hear the fan, this is normal, turn up the radio.
If you hear belts squealing/squeaking, then replace the belts.

And make sure that the 60K mile service has been completed.

Hmmm? Maybe sound-deadening material(spray-on or hand apllied) inside the engine bay and/or firewall? Some drawbacks of this may be added weight and increased engine bay temperatures. Not really sure, maybe someone that knows will chime in soon. Bray

Its not a squeking, the engine is just louder than what i like it. sounds like a blower blowing wind. i have never heard 2001 tacoma like mine brand new, but i would amagine you could not tell the engine was running from across the parking lot. i know some cars you can hardly tell there running. not saying mine should be completely stealth, but im sure there is something i can do to help make it sound like a new vehicle. nice and quiet.
