Default what to look for when buying used tacoma 4X4

Hi everyone. I am a virgin at this, so please be gentle. I am looking, with alot of interest, at a 1999 V6 automatic 4X4 Tacoma. It has the TRD option. My question is this. Having never owned a truck before, what should I be looking for ( as far as faults or excessive abuse )on this 1999 vehicle. It has 82,000 miles on it. I haven't test driven it as of yet , but plan on doing so soon. Any and all advice would be welcome. Thanks. Tony

Crawl underneath and look for any rusty(or fresh) metal srapes. If it's all beat to hell there is a good chance it was driven rough. Driven rough or not they are still durable trucks and it should still live to see 200K. Dirt collecting on oily deposits are bad signs. Tore CV boots are bad. Look at the anti freeze and oil, make sure they are not mixed. Pull a plug and see what it look like. Look at the airfilter. You want to see if the owner took care of it or just beat it. Why is the seller parting with it?

Thanks for the info. Actually it's being sold by a used car dealer. Your tips on what to look for are good ones, thanks. The dealer is asking 11,900 for it. It's always scarey buying a used vehicle. The dealer is offering a 3 month, 3000 mile warranty, but after that of course I'm on my own. I eyeballed it at night, just a quick walkaround, but plan on really scrutinizing it in the daylight and taking it for a ride- maybe even asking the dealer if I can keep it overnight. Thanks for the advice, I'll let you guys know how I make out.

Tyler... That price seems pretty high. I just (like 2 days ago) bought a 2000 Tacoma v6 TRD extended cab with 53k miles for 12,000. And that came with a brand new Fisher Minute mount plow. I also am in CT. Look in the bargain news. You are sure to find something at a better price.
