Default Question about deck plate mode

The whole thing with the deck plat mode is to get more air in right?
So my question is? What if you mounted a hi powered electric fan there.
What would that do

I personally have thought about that before too. I actually know a guy that did that to his civic!

Well, the problem I see with it is, your engine sucks alot more air than you think it does. It would be rally hard to find a fan that can pump enough air to actually make a difference.

If you think about how Turbo works, ( for an example, on a diesel engine ) they can put out up to 35 psi of boost. That boost actually pressurizes your intake air and increases the compression in your combustion chamber.
They do alot more than just blow more air.
They also can spin up to 200,000 rpms. You'll never find an electric fan that can do that!

Basically, with a fan, you would just be blowing air in... not actually pressurizing it!! Know what I mean? And even with an extremely high powered electric fan, you probably wouldn't blow enough air to even keep up with what your engine takes in on its own!

I am not sure if my buddy noticed anything from his civic fan mod... HE did buy it for $10 off ebay, so that doesn't say much!

I hope that helped answer your question a little.

do the deck plate, it's a good mod. especially with my new 33s, i really notice a power difference at higher speeds. plus, it adds a pretty deep rumble under aceleration and high rpm cruising (around 3000+ rpm under load) and who can argue with a 5 buck 'ram air' intake, just make sure to close it up when you go muddin'!

kingtoy99 , Your fan idea for getting more air into your engine is not a new one . Actually the device is called a Supercharger , which is basically your high speed fan idea bolted to the manifold behind the air filter . The big difference between it and a fan is that the impeller are designed to basically hold back the air pressure built up behind it . Superchargers are avalible as aftermarket add on accesories . A supercharger is usually belt driven off the crankshaft and does not spin as fast a a turbocharger does , while a turbo charger is kinda' like a pinwheel driven by exhaust pressure . A supercharger will start it's magic at a lower RPM than a turbocharger because it is mechanically driven , while a turbo starts later because it is dependent on exhaust flow and perform better as RPM increases .

While the deck plate mod is an excellant modification , it simply allowes more air to be taken into the engine by enlarging the opening on the air box . I do not consider it to be a true "Ram Air " system . A true "Ram Air' system take outside air , usually through a hood scoop and pipes it to the intake manifold . The benifit of this system is dependent upon the vehicles forward speed to force air into the engine . It is most efficient at speed above 70 MPH . While this could be a low cost alternative to a supercharger or a turbocharger . It would give most of it's benifit at Interstate speed . To get an idea of the forces involved try putting your hand out the window of a moving vehicle at different speeds .

I'm still toying with an idea for a true "Ram Air" System.
