It's best if you avoid trying to engage it above 5 MPH, but once it's locked, it will go as fast you want to. I have had mine up to 50 MPH locked in the sand and I know some of the desert racing set has gone a lot faster than that.

Do the locker mod so that that you can use the locker in all transfer case ratios and it becomes that much more useful. I run around off road, in two-wheel drive with the rear locked a lot of the time, then switch in and out 4x4 when I need it.

The "Locker Mod" is a simple modification that allows you to use the TRD electric locker in any transfer case range and at any speed.

In stock form, Toyota has the locker set up such that it will only lock up when the truck is in 4-low, that limits how fast you can go right there. After the mod, you can engage the locker in 4-low, 4-hi, 2-hi, whatever.

The mod is simple. You simply clip a wire coming from the ECU and ground it. Or, if you want to be able to restore it to stock function with the flip of a switch, you can install a switch as I have done. This is handy when you are in terrain where 4-hi or 2-hi is the correct range, but you want the extra traction that engaging the locker would provide.

You can do a Google search on "locker mod" or "gray wire mod" and see a bunch of write ups on it. In searching, I see that there are also a few threads on this board about it.

There is a variation on this mod called the "blue plug mod", but while it will do the same thing, it only works on some truck configurations.

Once you get done with that, give a shout and we can talk about the "2-lo" mod. That one will allow some configurations to have a rear-wheel drive mode that uses low range on the transfer case. Kind of like getting a twin stick for free

I hope that helps.

My pleasure. That is after all, why we are here

Just out of curiosity, where did you find the 2-lo mod at? I have a write up on the net and I am always interested in seeing how others word these things

Off for snow? That I didn't know. Why is that? I also just did my "deck plate mod". I was affraid it was going to sound like one of those gay boy low rider Honda Civic's that "race" around town (everytime I see one of those POS, I want to run it and it's stupid phony wing over) but it doesn't. Sounds kinda cool really. Jake
