you know what
ive ran it in my taco for 4 thousand miles and when i changed it it was just as dark as mobil 1. it is not something special like gods :censored::censored::censored::censored: or something i would not run it for 35,000 that is to me just stupid if it was that good it would be way more popular!!!! i know you can run mobil 1 for 5k and it be fine but i chang my mobil 1 every 3k just because i want my daughter to have my tacoma as her first vehicle and ive see half million mile toyotas that look good and run good
I agree. I will not go the full extent you are able too. I figure if I am gonna spend a bunch of loot on my truck I can afford good oil though. I'd like to change over all the drive train fluids as well. I'll give an update later.
yeah i use synthetics in my automatic tranny and both diffs and wheel bearings so well see how long she lasts
Yeah I am probably goign to switch all mine over too!
I run mobil 1 now... but I dont' run synthetic anywhere else. I probably won't go the full 35,000 either.. but I dont' think it would be bad to wait longer than 3,000.
I was reading my Toyota manual, and they recommend every 5,000 in harsh conditions (like stop and go traffic, and off-road dusty situations, etc..) For all other good conditions every 7,500 miles!!
And that is considering running cheap Toyota oil and filters. So if the manufacturer says to go that long... then who knows better???
I guess it is a highly debatable subject for sure!
One thing I was told by one of the older mechanics in my shop is that when you switch over to synthetic for the first time... you should actually change your oil sooner for the first time... because the synthetic will clean out all the deposits and residue from the cheaper oils that you ran in it before!
Then you can start it at longer intervals once you get all that gunk out!
That could be the reason why you noticed the dark oil after only 4,000.

yeah but they also dont change the diff fluids till 60,000 miles plus if your truck last longer you wount give them business for longer it is buisness still no matter what if somone came out with an engine that lasted 50 year or 5 million miles do you think they wold make it ??? no i know good year has a rubber that lasts 3 hundre thousand miles but they wount make it they actually bought the patent from a nother company i for get ??so it would not be made! so buisness is like war and that is life
and when i put the amsoil in it was after runing mobil 1 and at 10,000 miles so there really cant be much carbon build up ???
and oil will blacken no matter what
I guess it must just be Toyota's unbeatable reputation and their well known quality that oulasts any other manufacturer, along with the fact that they are now the Number one selling manufacturer in the country!
For some reason I figured I could trust their recommendations in the owners manual. I mean they are the ones that engineered the stuff!
Just an update of some research about Amsoil in case anybody wanted to solid info..
I talked to a guy that is dedicated to this stuff
(I'd give him the credit for it but I didn't get his permission)
He said that he changes his oil twice a year. Sometimes he may go up to 10,000 miles between changes.
On more than one occasion he actually sent his oil in for analysis, and the results proved that the oil was still in prime usable condition.
So I think that is a good baseline for me to go by... I dont' know about you guys.
I am definatley going to get this stuff, and I'll probably stick to the twice a year thing. It's so much easier than tracking your miles and it's cheaper than changing it every 3,000, AND it is PROVEN to still be good for the Taco TOO! What more could I ask for?
I'm a believer
