Default Aftermarket Speakers?

Someone recently posted they had replaced the factory speakers with some aftermarket speakers. Have you noticed an improvement in sound quality? I want to do this but keep the factory head unit. The local car audio shop has Pioneer 6x8s 3-way for $79 a pair. I think I also want to install them myself as they want $35 per pair for the job. Is it hard to do? Thanks

You might be referring to my post a little while back. I took out the door and rear speakers (I have ext. cab) and replaced them with Infinity 6x8's. I would def. reccomend changing out the speakers, the stock ones are just paper and you'll notice quite a difference. I don't know how much of a difference it will make if you keep the stock head unit, because I got a new one, but it should still make a difference in sound quality. You probably won't see a difference in power until you replace that head unit. I'm not an expert at car audio type stuff though. The installs are not that hard, I could send you the documentation if you want to do it, but $35 per pair for the job is not bad, and if you're not the type that likes to rip things apart and do it yourself, I would just have someone do it. They'll do a better job anyway (not that you couldn't do a good job, but they do it for a living). By the way I've had some pioneer 3-ways in the past and they sounded awesome.

i am on my way right now to pick up a new head unit and some new 6x8's and a 10inch sub for the custom box i have being shiped on the way! by keeping the stock head unit you will not get anymore power but the sound will be cleaner! If you don't know much about this type of work i am still sure you can do the speakers but the head unit needs a little know how! red

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not really after huge sound, just cleaner and the ability to go a little louder than stock without all of that buzzing sound. I really like the stock head unit as it has cd and tapedeck in one and the orange display matches everything else. I don't mind putting them in myself. Now if I could just be done with college finals....

Cool man. Check out this article to see how to take apart the door, it was really handly.

http://customtacos.com/tech/index.ph...id=143&c=6

I have a PDF file at home on how to take apart the rear to do the rear speaker install. It was a little more tricky. Email me and I'll send you that file when I get home tonight.

Yeah Danny, I responded to your post talking big about how I was thing about some Kappa's until I checked out the price of these suckers! Anyway, I found the 6.5 inch Reference (for the back of my '99') for $79 pr. and installed them in short time. They did make an impressionable difference even with my stock head unit. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I couldn't swing for those outrageous Kappa's either because I am not that big of a dog. Bray.

Yeah, same here. I usually spend a little more to get nice stuff (hence I own a tacoma) but I draw the line when things are silly expensive just to get that 1% extra performance or whatever...
