No big deal. Typically a volt meter won't show any movement with voltage load, which should be fairly constant. With an ammeter, however, amp load will vary and the needle will move according to amperage load - charge/discharge. I've had ammeters in most of my trucks. I prefer them to volt meters because you can see more accurately what's going on with the alternator/charging circuit.
