Default 84 runner high output alternator ????
New to the forum and need some help. I've got an 84 runner that is slowly evolving into a rock crawler. It's time for a winch and some xtra lights. Problem is the stock alternator puts out 30-40 amps. I need to upgrade this to a higher output. The pre 85 toyota's utilized an external regulator making it not so easy to just swap in a high output unit because the regulator would just bring the output back down to stock. Anybody ever dealt with this? Your help is greatly appreciated! BTW - the local auto electric shop was no help at all.

check northwest off road.

you can put a internal regulated alt in as well, not to difficult, it needs a constant 12v when the ignition is on and a hot wire that fires only when the starter is cranking to excite it
