that's a hot machine!!!

I was eyin' those in the beginning, but then thought, you know, I really want a desktop. I don't like having a notebook as my primary. if they made the Macbook in the 15", I'd consider one of those and a very capable iMac.

Kev, do you have the P4 Extreme or Core2 Extreme?

ATI External Event Utility EXE Module. Another background task which gets installed when you install ATI display drivers. Under Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003 the service registers as the “ATI Hotkey Poller” and further investigation shows that it is related to the handling of various ATI Hotkeys which bring up specific ATI utilities. Not only is this facility useless to 99.99% of users, but there is also no documentation anywhere on those ATI hotkeys !! Additionally some of our more inquisitive users have been able to prove that ATI2EVXX can sometimes be an incredible resource hog using up to 85% of CPU utilization !! Older versions of this background task show up as ATIPOLAB in the Task List.

Recommendation: is to disable it on startup, if you can't find it on start-up you can try typing MSCONFIG into the text area of the start menu, then go to the startup tab and remove the check mark from the ATI External Event Utility. This will put the machine in selevtive startup mode and when you reboot you may get a screen advising this...simply take the check box out of the corner of that screen on your reboot, should say something like show this screen next you reboot. If it screws something up don't worry, just go back to msconfig and click normal startup and it's back to square one!

If you still can't find it in startup files try this: services.msc then look for ATI Hotkey Poller and set it's startup mode to DISABLED...that way the service won't launch on boot and you won't get the crash error anymore cause it isn't running.

An alternate thing to do is go directly to ATI's webpage and see if they have new drivers released for vista lately. Video drivers are updated constantly sometimes every month or so...sometimes every six months...depends on the issues.

Hope this helps

Kev

Thanks Mudrunnerr88.....but all that sounds like a little over my head, lol. If you ever come across the ATI update link for Vista, post it here. I may attempt that, lol.

I need the make and model of your tower. If you can not find the model look on the front of the tower near the power button usually or on the back of the tower should be a sticker with the serial # and part #...or if you have the box still it should clearly state the model #. Also if the box says the model of the chipset or video card it helps...for example the latest intel chipset is i975. An example of the ATI card would be Radeon 9500 or something like that.

Does your monitor plug into the motherboard itself or is there an add-on video card where you plug the monitor in down near the bottom where the add-on blocking plates are?

Scott, I got a P4 Extreme 3.4ghz running in my tower right now, and I have a Core 2 Duo sitting around waiting for another board (still selling my intel board socket LGA775 965 chipset)

Here's what that looks like to the rest of us normal people.......

Module De service De l'Événement Externe EXE d'ATI.

Here is ATI's link to the radeon x300 drivers (you have x200) but these drivers should support your machine.

Catalyst® 7.2 Display Driver for Windows Vista (32 bit) if it says you can't d/l them you need to go back to the main page (it will re-direct you) then on the top right click drivers, then choose OS-Vista/Then RADEON/and finally scroll to find x300 model. The 38mb one should do you fine...the 80mb one is for multi language.

Something seems to be wrong with acer's server but here is the link that should be where you can find the manufactures drivers Support & Download if that doesn't work go directly to Global Acer.com and go from there.

Good luck!

Okay, I did that download....everything worked, except it said that the 'uninstall' (option, I guess) was not sucessful. My screen is a little smaller. How do I readjust the screen now? Do I adjust the monitor settings, or do I do it through Display Settings?

My settings now are 1024x768, (0 degrees) Color: 32 Bpp.....whatever that means, lol.
