IFS Steering Box

One quick question. I just picked up a power steering box from the junkyard off an 86-89 pickup. 22RE if I remember correctly. It didn't cross my mind at the time. I plan on getting the marlin crawler hy-steer kit and use the box for that. A buddy of mine suggested that he thought I would need an IFS box from a V6, because the 22RE box wouldn't be strong enough. Is this true or will the steering box from a 4 cyl toy work? thanks!

Same box, no difference between them with various engines. The early boxes had a different style casting than the later ones and use a different seal set but otherwise the same size parts, strength, etc.

From what I understand you need to have the box from a 4x4 as the 4x2 steering box will not work.
