Default Cheap ways to lift rear, please help guys!

I am getting ready to put 7" Skyjackers on the front of my 85 Toy, I have a chevy V-8 so I am predicting they will settle (over time) to about 5"-5 1/2". My question is what would be a cheap, reliable way to lift the rear so that she will sit level or slightly lower in the rear? Right now I have factory springs w/ add-a-leaves 1 1/2" blocks, and factory shackles. The rear sits about 3" higher than stock, so it will need approximately 2"-2 1/2" more lift. I can't use longer shackles without re-doing my exhaust (it exits at 45 degree angles right behind both shackles). Any suggestions?.........LukeMudwalker.

I'd love to hear how much actual lift you get from the Skyjacker 7" springs. I have a set of Superlift 7" that I have considered removing a leaf from since I don't want all that much lift... really want about 5" or so.

Default Re: Blocks or drop the spring mounts.

Most people will gripe about the block suggestion but I'm running 4" blocks on my rearend and haven't had any increase in axle wrap over just the 6" alcans. (The 6" alcans did wrap though, there just wasn't any increase, nor have the blocks fatigued my springs). Your other option is to cut off the shackle hanger and spring hanger and lower them by placing a piece of rectangular tubing between the frame and mount. Or you could just buy new rear springs but that is probably too costly. I am of the opinion that you should combine methods to get the flattest spring possible with a moderate block and moderate extended length shackle. That's just my opinion though.
Good luck,
Sean

Dave,
I am considering doing the same thing, cause I also really want about 5", but I'm afraid they will sag if I take one of the leaves out. The bottom leaf looks very much like an ordinary "shorty" add-a-leaf, if I do take one out it will probably be this one, plus, I think it would help the ride quality of these high lift springs. I am going to install them in a couple of weeks, and I'll let you know what I did and how it went. Just curious, how long have you had yours in, have they settled any, and what is the ride like? Also, did you do any driveshaft mods when you went that tall? I checked out your homepage, and it sounds like you were already that tall before installing the Superlifts, sorry about rambling on....LukeMudwalker.

Hi Sean,
Where did you get your 4" blocks from? How much were they? Who are they made by? Thanks for the input......LukeMudwalker (the old SupaYoda).

Haven't done it yet. I've had the springs for a few months now but been waiting on getting all the related materials ready before I went forward with it. I may end up just selling them and doing something different, like swapping in rear springs.
