1965 Cruiser charging systems? Howdy all-
I am a motorcycle mechanic(BMW/Moto Guzzi/Ducati) who has a friend whose '65 Cruiser stopped charging this weekend. He was able to get home on a new battery he picked up at WalMart.
I had a multimeter with me, and checked to see is voltage raised with RPM. After jumping him, he was at about 9 volts; as it idled, I got a low of 7.65 volts. And still, she purred like a kitten- no turn signals of course, nor a radio. Says a lot about having points instead of electronic ignition.
Now here's the puzzler for me- does he have a generator, or an alternator and regulator/rectifier for his charging system? When I think mid 60's European road bikes, some have generators(those Italians!), and some have an alternator.
If you know, please enlighten me- thanks! |
