Re: ? is it worth it ? The post I entered was actually a reaction to the cruisers bashing jeeps. I too, had a Fj55 and I would have loved to completely restored it. I do in fact like Land Cruisers alot. I just ended up building a Jeep. If jeepers are in fact bashing Land Cruisers, they are wrong. As far as the Birfield joints are concerned, they are not that big of a deal. There are kits out that will replace them with stronger units if the need ever arises. As far as not seeing jeeps throughout the world. I have also been to Africa and other locations overseas and you are right -- there are not a whole lot of jeeps out there. Part of the reason is that Land Rover and Toyota have a large dealer and parts base throughout the world. Jeep missed the boat on that one. I did see a Jeep dealership in Cambodia ('97) and also in Kenya ('95). I am not a big fan of the new Jeeps which is why I drive a CJ7. I think that both of us would agree that the most important thing is the driver of the 4X4 and that inline 6 is the best engine for offroad travel. There is alot of friendly ribbing that goes on between Land Cruiser owners and Jeep owners. It should be in good fun, not anything more.
Further, anyone who tells you a Jeep can't get stuck is a fool. And yes, I would definitely help you if you were stuck, broken, high-centered, etc. (nothing expected in return) and I am figuring that you would do the same. Please keep me posted on the Unimog buildup. I got to use one in Thailand in '98 and it was impressive. I was hoping someone would reply to the post since the Land Cruiser BBS seemed kinda dead. Good luck on the new project.
