Canuck is on a distinguished road
Default Hi, my name is Al and I am a newbe. I drive a 76 fj40 cruiser that I am rebuilding.

When purchased it was not running and looked like a slice of swiss cheese with a bite out of it.
The former owners apparently used it for mudding as the frame was jammed solid with red mud. Once it was running it only wanted to run wide open, probably due to the large Holly carb which I replaced with a stock rebuilt carb. This made it drivable enough to get it to a machine shop to have the front drive-shaft rebuilt. By the time I felt it was reliable enough to take it more than five miles from home, I have as much invested in it as the original purchase price. Not to bore you with all the details I will get to the next task that I wish to address.

TBI EFI electronic fuel injection was seriously considered when removing the Holly carb but with no plans to use it for competition EFI did not appear to be a cost effective solution. Well what with the current cost of fuel the TBI system could pay for itself in short order, beside the other nice advantages.

I have been researching this conversion and so far it seems like a fairly strait forward project except for the distributer modification every thing can be salvaged from a Chevy S-10.
I would appreciate any input or recommendations. Have fun out there! Canuck

Thumbs up 2f carb and distributor option.

If you want real performance without major $$. I rebuilt my 2f with a downey cam, split header into twin mufflers, And an Offenhauser 4brl intake i got off ebay for $56, and an Edelbrock #1404 4brl 500cfm carb you can get at any kragen or pep boys for under $300. In total, cheaper than the holley or webber setup, and I eat them for lunch in performance. Oh, almost forgot the Distributor. Go stock, and install a Pertronix ignitor with their Hi-Fire coil. Then go stiffer on distributor advance springs. You will get top performansce at fraction of cost of the so called performance distributors.
