I recently purchased a 94 Landcruiser and love it. I have noticed in cold weather(as cold as it gets in TX) that it idles fast(1800-2000 rpms) as it warms up the idle return to normal. This is pretty hard on the engine reving up while so cold. I figure that it is probably a sensor, but do not know how to check them.
Also, the cruiser has the factory lockers, when placed into 4 lo and switching the hubs into locked position the dash lights just blink. Is there anything I need to do to get them to engage? Thanks
Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated. Thanks John
I realize that the fast idle is normal, but the problem is, it is going to approximatley 2000 rpms and so quickly that I can hear the rods rattle for a few seconds until the oil gets moving. This disturbs me, because it can do harm if it continues as it is. Thanks for the post.
i'm not sure about your particular motor, but i do know that some european (VW, Audi tec) use hydraulic lifters that make a "ticking" noise for the first for seconds until they acumulate enough oil pressure. These types are self adjusting, and thus the noise. I would think that the only real inital wear is during the first say, 10 rotations of the crankshaft when the oil has slid down from the walls of the cylinder, but my old beaten 4-runner w/ 270K KM on it still is oil tight and maintains good compression after 50K of daily, city stop/start/shutoffs.
I have a '94 Cruiser with 4500cc V6 and it does the same when I fire it up in the cold. And it does get cold here where I live (Siberia, Russia). This is normal for an EFI controlled engine.
