Re: What is the best year to get a FJ40 from? I would guess, its personal preference. If you have strict smog police, you might want to get one thats old enought for exemption. (this differs state to state) If you want disc brakes (recomended) then you would want a 76-up. If you are searchin for a vehicle that is close to stock (ie: no v-8 conversions) Then the prefered engine is the 2f I-6. This engine was introduced in 1975. It has a little larger dispacement and a little more power at a lower rpm range than the F motor of previous years. In 1979, the ring and pinion was changed from 4.11 to a 3.70 ratio. Better for highway and gas milage, but can tax the motor if larger tires are used. I cant recall when it was first introduced, but I believe power steering was an option after 79. In my humble opinion (not an expert by any means) I would go with a 78-up. |
