Default Death of a newsgroup

On this 13th day of September, 1999, I announce the unfortunate death in the family. The Land Cruiser BBS. As soon as I saw this new format, I knew that it was going down, way down, in popularity. But I had no idea that it would go this far. So with this, I am off. We will miss you, BBS.

Why didn't any LC people come on over? The new BBS is pretty nice once you get used to it. Just wondering why people have "given up" on such a good source of info.

I think some of the big reasons are, 1: anonymous postings, that was a benefit to some. second, I find it quite a big hassle to use this forum, personally, I have gone back to the Land Cruiser Mailing list.
also, a lot of people who used it dont have an email. most did but some didnt. I know when I first used it some years ago, I didnt have email, only use of a computer.
But anyways...
I need my daily "fix" of Land Cruisers, and the BBS just isnt doing it for me anymore

I think it's a shame they got rid of the old B.B. Simplicity is a wonderful thing (and simplicity is usually faster.) Of course, their old B.B. had it's problems, too. It would scramble older posts out of context pretty bad. But that could have been fixed.

The BBS is still there - I didn't know they had changed over!

I agree it is sort of a shame, but with the number of problems on some boards, this was necessary to get a better signal-to-noise ratio.

Yes Lance, you have a simple BB, but not near the volume or the associated problems. Smaller means you can get by with simpler

I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that in the past month or so, even the old BBS was slow (traffic-wise). There were only a couple of posts a day. Since I have been posting on that board (about 6 mos), there were only a few regulars, not near as many as on the P/U board.

FYI, I was trying every way possible to get on in the final weeks and out of about 20 trys, only 2 actually made it.
I have an FJ60 self-destruct crisis.
Anybody know where those wizards like Mark Whatley and Jim Chenoweth et al hang out these days.?

I find it absolutely amazing that this board gets so little traffic, these are the REAL 4bys of the Toyota family.
