| | | F@*&@#$ ford I am Trying to install a 3 inch steering arm lift block into a 78 F-150 supercab. The steering arm has to be removed to add in the lift block. The steering arm does not want to come free, I'm looking for anyone that has done this before, or that knows someone that has, or anyone that has any usefull advice. | | Re: F@*&@#$ ford I'm sure you've tried the BFH and heat? (Big Freakin' Hammer) A two arm puller has worked for me. try some wd40 from the top. If your replacing the arm, why not torch it off? Just be carefull not to get into the splines of the gearbox. |

| | Re: F@*&@#$ ford Just my .02 on the subject as far as safety is concerned, NEVER USE HEAT OR HAMMERS ON ANY STEERING OR SUSSPENSION COMPONENTS it can cause failures that CAN cause loss of life. Use the PROPPER tools for any given susspension or steering component repairs or replacements. They do make the PROPPER tools for a reason.

| | | Re: F@*&@#$ ford Krabysniper's post is correct. That being said you can easily remove your pitman arm with the following method.
Place a 4lb hammer on one side of the pitman arm where the sector shaft runs through it as a backup. Strike the exact opposite side of the pitman with another 4lb hammer, making sure to align hammers between blows. It shouldn't take too many hits to free it up. This is a junkyard method! |
