Usually when this happens you have moved into a new neighborhood....OR someone new has moved into yours....

Had a problem at my last neighborhood, a couple guys were trying to get in the house without knocking on the front door. So I fired my 41mag through the window screen, putting a round right at their feet and asked them to never, ever, set foot on my property again.
And we all seemed to come to an agreement quickly and I never had any more trouble from then on.

That's awsome, but most of the time you don't know you are being robbed when it is happening, because the crook probably wouldn't be doing it in the first place. Well, except for the most determined ones with guns of their own. About kids getting hit, I guess you have the right to choose how to be a parent, but I think that it doesn't work at the least, and will cause violence in the future from the child.
