| | need advice form the 4x4 experts
here is the situation....there is an area in SW texas that i need to have a vehicle ..the area(desert) is sandy and rocky...obviously a 4x4 is what i need...
HOWEVER...I was able to score a 96 geo tracker 2x4.
question...I am wondering...if I Locked the rear end...would that give me more versitility than a straight 2x4....and if so what would i have to do to "lock' it and what would be the disadvantages....as i will have to travel black top too.
thanks
rasta

rasta | Locker will give you two tires spinning together and thus better traction. On black top it will click when turning and you will hear it because the locker "unlocks on a turn" I have heard they can be unpredictable on the road so I went with a mini spool in my tracker and love it. I have not since parting out my tracker put the rear axle under my samurai with it. But either way a locker or spool will def make your offroading better.

IMHO, if you are traveling over uneven terrain, you'll still want 4x4.
