Thinking of converting a Samurai to electric

Hi All,

My daughter and I want to do an electric conversion project as a learning experience. We live in snow country so a 4x4 would be a bit more useful than one of the more common conversions. I have found a couple of Samurai conversions on the web.

I have a few questions that I hope you can help me with:

1) Any pointers to people who have done this conversion?

2) Should I also consider a Sidekick/Tracker? How much heavier are they?

3) Any pointers to a clean, blown engine candidate car in southern California?

I have read some on electric conversions. With a lot of fabrication you could probably stuff enough battery's to make it work. Your BIGGEST problem is that battery capacity is greatly lowered in cold weather. There are many blogs on conversions to the point that you can find all you need to do this. Google electric conversions and start reading, and good luck.

I have seen pics of one that was done. they connected the motor to the transmission and ran the batterys in the bed with a cover over them.
