Default 1990 Tracker gear questions

My Tracker seems to be in need of a fourth gear at expressway speeds? It's only got a three speed auto. I know this car is not the best for high speeds but it's turning around 4,000 rpms at 65 mph. Not sure what the gear ratio is but think it's 512's? Is it a hard job to change the transfer gears to something better for highway speeds? I don't do a lot of off road driving so with the gas prices as they are I'm looking for better mpg out of this thing...
Thanks for any help,

Stuff some bigger tires under it.....you should have 4.62's since it is an auto trans.
