Look up under the dash where the pedals are. On the clutch pedal there is a switch kinda like a brake light switch. Take it off and hook the two wires together that are plugged into it.

I've been watching the news---don't think it's gonna quit raining out there. Might just wanna grab a rain coat & go do it. It takes like 5 mins. to do. Remember you done it though, I forgot & bumped the starter in a parking lot. Ended up all on the front of the car in front of me.

Not a great idea if your state has annual inspections. With the clutch bi-pass disconected it's an automatic fail. Best thing is to run the wiring through a switch. Switch off no clutch, switch on back to stock. This way it keeps the state inspectors out of your back pocket.

Toyota 4X4's have this "clutch start cancel" switch on the dash and I use mine most every day. It also works great for starting the truck on a ricky hillclimb where you don't want a to chance rlling backwards. Zippy has the right idea with installing a switch so it is selectable.....and still passes the safety inspection.

<edit>
Looks like a lot of people answered while I was preparing this post! My answer is a bit more technical in description, but everything posted above applies ESPECIALLY the part about passing inspection! I would go with the bypass switch which would function similarly to Sean's Toyota comments...

Anyhow, here is my original post:

<edit>

There is a microswitch on the clutch pedal assembly that is wired in series with the starter relay circuit. When you push on the clutch pedal, the switch closes and the starter circuit is enabled.

The safest solution is to place another easily-accessable switch across this switch to bypass it when bypassing is needed. A possible mounting place is next to the dash lights dimmer below and to the left of the steering wheel.

Or you can jumper across the switch to eliminate the "clutch-pressed-in" function.

You can also replace the switch with another switch mounted out of sight. This will act as an anti-theft device when in the switch is in the "open" position.

Be sure to use a switch that can handle the load. Don't use a little bitty toggle switch like you find in electronic gear. Get something big an beefy from an auto parts store.

You know this is funny to me! When I bought my 91 sammy, it had this done to it. But until now I thought it had something to do with it being an EFI since all my others have been carbed. The random things you learn by reading all the posts.

Ok I just have one question about this with the state inspection. The jeeps came from the factory with out a clutch safety switch. So my question is how can the jeeps get away with this and not any other trucks??

I think it has something to do with the switch being factory installed. If it's there to start with, it better work, if not, no biggie. But what do I know, Indiana dosen't check for anything...lol.
