Default 2 wheel drive buggie

these two wheel drive buggies went everwhere a 4wheel drive could go, and more, it was amazing.

I am thinking about building one of these out of a samurai frame and rear axle. the builder said the advantage of these things is they are really light, which got me to thinking that samurai parts might be even lighter.

i know that there are a lot of people working on mini buggies using light weight front wheel drive car motors and trannys and then they don't even need the t-case and still have a really good low range! they are welding up the front wheel drive diff in the tranny and mount the motor/tranny length wise in the frame.

i have been researching these buggies because they are so simple and light.

This is what happens when someone has excess junk and time on their hands.

What was the "and more" part this buggy could do that a 4x4 couldn't?

they climb better, and go thru mud better. I know it is hard to believe, but they do. It is the kind of thing you just have to see for yourself. Here in iowa we don't have rocks, what we have is mud, and steep hill climbs. the place where I wheel at almost didn't let them in, because they were afraid they would be getting stuck all the time, boy were they suprised.

these buggies are nothing more than a stock chevy 2wd truck, with the motor moved back, the front narrowed, and a 4 link coil setup in the back. two break pedals, one for each rear tire, so no need for a locker, in fact he said the locker created more problems then it helped. Not alot of time or money invested, and less parts to break.

the guy i talked to has helped with making around 15 of these, and on average he has 1500-2000$ in each one including the vehical itself and the tires.
