Default Which air setup should I buy...need quick response

I'm a little torn right now on what to do. I'm thinking about purchasing a Powertank PT10 for $220 shipped (used once) or buying air compressor at Home Depot for $299. That air compressor would obviously be only for my garage, but comes with a whole slew of attachments. It's a Husky which they told me was made by Porter Cable a good tool manufacturer. Which one would I be better served to get?

I have 2 porter cable air compressors...the dual tank and the pancake. I bought them because of thier name...I own several P>C> tools and love them, but the compressors on the oter hand, are junk...They have a bad habbit about not being able to recover quickly enough.

your answer really depends on what your needs are and what you do most.

as for Porter C, no expeience with their air compressors, my compressor is a Campbell H.

I use it all the time and have really enjoyed having it in my garage,

but I do have a portable compressor in my rig for the trail, if you do get one for the trail, have a small tank under the hood to go with it, it helps when you want to air up your tires, does not wear out the compressor as fast..

if you want to find out about PC compressors, look them up on the net, there are feedback from user sections out there.

good luck.

As much as I like my powertank I use my compressor at home ten times as much . IF I could only pick one it would be a vertical oiled compressor . 220 preferably . You will be amazed at how much you start using your compressor once you have it .

Greg thats what I was thinking. At least one of the guys I run with usually has OBA on the trail. I'll probably go with the Husky setup for the garage.

I would agree with Sammy Davis.

I have a 10lb. CO2 tank for trail use that also does double duty for my MIG welder. While its great for airing up or running the occasional impact wrench for removing rims, I would NOT recommend using it at home to replace a AC powered compressor. Since it costs me $15 to fill it and it will provide about 20 min. of air tool run time, its just too expensive for home use.

If you can, get an oil lubricated, 5HP 220V compressor with at least a 20 gal. tank. It will provide all the air you will need short of sandblasting your entire rig

Have fun, air is awesome (although I have had more fun with an angle grinder with cut-off blade haha )

It's a 6hp, 25 gallon compressor. Here's some more on it. Product Description
5.8 CFM @ 90 psi. 120 Volt, 15 Amp. Induction motor with oil-free pump. 135 psi max pressure. High-flow regulator and quick-connects. 1-year warranty.

Is that good?

Look at the cfm consumption of the tools you want to run . If 5.8 covers wht you want to use you should be fine . With my air tools you couldnt use my d.a. sander or the sandblaster . I dont think you could run my cutoff tool either . My buddy just got a huge 50 gallon tank 220v 5 hp porte cable from Lowes for 329.99 . They are closing them out ...they are in very limited supply though . I got my Craftsman on clearance also for about 300.00
