I have done a search and can't find answers... I want to know if anyone has an inexpensive way to lower the gear ratio other than replacing the ring/pinion? I also would like to know if anyone has replaced there stock altinator with something other than a factory one. If so what kind and how much does it cost, where do I get one?
Thanks for any help!!!
I am also planning a trip to Uwharrie 7-12-03 Saturday/Sunday it will be my FIRST trip on my Suki. I have rode there a lot on my atv but never in the Suzuki. I will be the one with Gray Samauri with the Orange front bumper.

You can install tcase gears for a little cheaper (and easier). Most guys run the GM alternator with a homemade bracket or one from Trail Tough, Roadless Gear...etc.
transfer case gears are NOT a cheap way to fix your gearing but they are one of the most cost effective mods in my opinion. You can get a set of 4:16 (GRS1) gears for somewhere around what it would cost you to do R&P front and rear, probably and is overall a smarter choice in my semi-informed opinion.
However, here is a fully informed opinion: a Tracker/Kick alternator is NOT a bolt in swap. My truck runs a newly rebuilt GM alternator (40$) with a Trail Tough bracket (25$) because the Tracker alternator I got to put in it would not allow me to properly align the pulley without grinding the alternator casing in a big way. It can be done, obviously, but it is far from bolt-in.
The GM alt is a tight squeeze but fits well with the bracket from Trail Tough. The pulley only required a little shimming to line up and the wiring is very simple, using a commonly available pigtail from an auto parts shop. My own GM alt is 70 amps but you can get them well past 100 amps if you get the right one. The same style alt was used on just about everything large GM made for about 15 years..station wagons, passenger cars, pickup trucks, etc.
maybe different years have different cases or something, Rob, but there was no way to put the sami pulley on the tracker alt and have it line up. The alt will bolt into the same place and use the same connector, its the pulley thats the issue. There would be no way to get the sami pulley close enough to the front of the tracker alt case to line up. The sami pulley mounting surface is more or less flush with the pulley in the back and the tracker one has a kind of neck on it to reach the mounting surface of the shaft, which is recessed. Its hard to describe. I will see if I can find the parts and take a pic.
Thanks for the info! How can you tell me what I can ask for at the parts store on the Alt. for a GM ? Make, Model, year? Thanks again for the info.
