Battery dies

My battery dies completely when the Sami sits for 4-5 days. Newer battery and will check it tomorrow but looking for a heads-up in basic troubleshooting. If the battery checks out ok, I assume a short in a hot circuit. How can I isolate? If battery is disconnected an I take an Ohm meter from the fuses to ground? OR....? Thanks, Charlie

If you can't find a parasitic drain , there is a way to test for it . You can hook up a meter inline with the positive side battery cable , if it shows voltage there is a drain . Take the fuses out one by one , that will show you what circuit it is . If there is no drain in the system , check the battery out . If the battery has removable caps , take them off and connect the meter to the negative side of the battery . Starting at that end of the cells , probe down into the acid in each one with the positive test lead from the meter , each cell should progressively go up 2 volts , ie: 2,4,6,8 ect.. ., until reaching 12 at the other end . If any one cell does not increase the voltage , that cell is dead and will drain the battery in a very short time . Most testers in Auto stores won't show that , they will take and hold a charge somewhat , but can't provide full power or hold a charge for any length of time . If it's a sealed unit , no test like that can be done . Hope this helps,

Thanks, but not certain what you mean about hooking up a meter in-line on the positive cable. Do mean both probes go into the b+ cable? Does it matter where? Thanks, Charlie

unhook one of the cables and put one end of the meter on the cable end and the other on the battery post.
