Default Towing Questions

Just bought a tow bar for my Zuk to tow it to my first trail ride far from town.
Are there any tips / tricks I need to know before towing my Zuk?
I can wire up the tail lights myself but does anybody have any advice?
Put in in neutral and T case in neutral and good to go?
Are the factory tow points enough for road / highway use?

If you are going any distance , I'd say the best bet is to yank the rear driveshaft . 8 bolts are easier than replacing the driveline ....

No you put the Xfer in neutral and the tranny in 2nd. stop every 300 miles and start it to slosh
some oil in the tranny.

Better still, remove the drive shaft. Several people have thown them by towing.

Bought tow bar @ Walmart. $99. Found some on Ebay for 50 but $39 for shipping. ouch! Wanted to be able to take it back easily if it didn't fit. Fits factory tow spots perfectly!

Why put the tranny in 2nd? Doesnt make sense to me.

Not going too far only 150 miles but wanted to tow it in case I break something and need a ride home. Plus my F150 has a little better highway ride.

the t/case does whird things they way it spins but if you hit a bump and it jumps in gear your screwed i know someone that had to replace stuff he hit a bump went into gear at 70 mph and messed the t/case and tranny up

i say pull the d/shaft completely

i have towed all tree ways 180 miles both in neutral
180 miles t/case in neutral and tranny in second. last 620 to the melt i pull ed d/saft for that.

as for the mount
DONT JUST BOLT TO THE BUMPER it will come off it should go to the frsme

i flat towed mine almost 1300 miles last summer....i built the tow bar and mount myself. i got about $25 into it. i also made myself a clamp on set of lights with a cord that ran all the way into the front that hooked into my trailer plug on the truck...

all i did was unlock the front hubs...pulled the rear drive shaft and lift the t-case and tranny in neutral just in case a hub failed or something.....i had absolutly no problems at all...i was able to run 70mph+ with no hint of swaying or fishtailing.

the key is make sure the front end on your zuk is in alignment and make sure the tow bar is centered properly in front of the vehicle.

the tailights i made just were mounted to a piece of angle iron with a 3" wide 1/8" thick piece of steel welded to it. i then just used C-clamps to hold it to the hitch and put a plug right behind the lights....if you want i can take some pictures of my setup since i got a new camera lol

Puting the tranny into second is to keep the gears from freewheeling. There is enough drag with the thick
gear oil that they will still turn when out of gear.

In any case those recomendations came out of the Suzuki instructions for towing and are the same in the
84, 86 and 88.5 owners manuals.

The best bet is to remove the DS

If your thinking about rear disks and want to flat tow, do it right and convert to full floaters as well.
Thats my plan.
