| | Re: who runs calmini fronts?? i agree with silverzuk. calmini is famous for advertising products that are not in production or else they promise that "in the near future" they will have the product ready.
did they have the duel webber intake manifold for a gti head that was advertised for sale for many many years in their catalouge??? yes, they made a prototype but never released it for sale to teh public. bummer for me.
however, if this product is actually in existance, which it may well be, i would not hesitate to guess that the quality would be second to none, like the rest of their product line.
as for breakage, i would prefer mine to happen as close to the hub as possible, to simplify repairs. |

weeks ago.As far as breakage occuring next to the diff,these
shafts solve that problem.Having a larger spline count and
being made of a stronger material the weak point will be
forced out to the Birfield again,probably even with rings
or the Longfield modification.
I've got no experience with Longfield Samurai Birfs so
maybe somebody who does can fill me in.Figmo used to sell
these so there must be some in use.On the Toyota versions
they weld a ring on,is this done on the Samurai Birfields?
Seems like there wouldn't be any room in the knuckle.
Are the inner races heat treated (softened)like the outer
cup of the Birfield? If not then that will most likely be
the weak link. |

| | Re: who runs calmini fronts?? The longfield birfs for zuks won't have the ring welded on, neither will toyotas, this is due to turning radius (i mentioned this already). The inner cage and the outer stub and birf is ALL treated with the same process. With calmini the shafts are larger and are 26 spline, they are the same diameter as the rear axle shafts made by calmini, they are 4140 cromoly, that will be a MUCH bigger increase in strength. Also you could run warn hubs with the lighter weight fuses. I will ONLY be running 34-10.5 ltb's with this setup, and BARELY any rock at all. So I guess we will see!! About 15 trips to Uwharrie, and a trip to Globe, and a trip to zukimelt, where i rolled [img]images/graemlins/40BEER.gif[/img]. Not to mention I have broke three drivers side rear axles in the same time period...later, aaron |

| | Re: who runs calmini fronts?? Do you have the old version double toughs or the newer version? The old version I have been told just used rear axle shafts, not the cromoly shafts. I have heard good reports from everybody who runs those. I think the longfield/calmini would be about as strong as the double toughs. You might want to look in to a set of the calmini rear axle shafts. I have heard all good reports about those and 33's. I think longs/calmini should do me good especially since I'm not much into rocks.
