Loud metal clank?

I just lifted my friends zuki with a spoa.No spacers on the drivelines.We went out wheelin this weekend and was going up a moderately steep[30 degress]and mudhill,when all of sudden CLANK CLANK CLANK !!!!!Loud metal poping noise.Sounded like the transfer case and noticed the front wheels jumped when it popped. We took the rig home and tore the case apart and didn't see any messed up teeth or bad bearings.HELP we don't know what to do now,anything is a help.Thankx

Has the pin for the Tranny shifter ever broke off?
I had this happen to me, while climbing a hill, the broke end of the bolt got caught in the gears, and stopped me cold.

this may not be anywhere close to what is wrong, but just checking to see, it maybe it.

Sounds like what happened to me when my front driveshaft came apart, but I guess you would have figured that out.
