Any experiences with the Quick Air or Viair units? I'm thinking of running a 2.5 gal tank with one of the above.... Any thoughts??? Thanks!

I bought the Viair "series 100" hardmount compressor and 2.5 gal. tank. The good part is it's small and can be mounted just about anywhere. The bad news is it's noisy, runs hot, and takes awhile to pressurize the tank. I was under the impression that a tank is not necessary for these units. I'm looking for a solution myself.

Although a tank usually isn't required it's a very good idea. If you click on you compresser when your nearing the trail head and fill the tank then you can fill your tires basically from the tank instead of waiting for the compressor. This works very well with small electric compressors. I'd suggest the biggest tank you can find room for. I have seen quite a few folk using their sliders, roll cages, bumpers etc. as air tanks.

I have a Quick Air 3. I love it (as far as 12V Comp. go). It work's great from 4-4.5 PSI to 20 in just over a minute each (33X12.50 TSL R's). As far as a tank goes, alot depends on your tire size VS tank size. Most tanks are not big enough to fill a tire, much less two or three (that is if you drop your air pressure much). I talked to the owner of a local company (the one I got parts from) and he looked at what I was going to do with the tank and told me not to waste my money. I know working for a towing comany I used a portable tank (not sure of the size, fairly big) and it had a hard time fill two normal car tires from 5 PSI to 32 PSI. That was filling the tank to 120 PSI. Just not enough volume. The best set up's are the AC compressors converted I have a 16V and I have not seen a good braket yet to make that a viable option (YET). A side note, if you are going for a lower end compressor, think about using a Cadi compressor. You can get from the junk yard for cheeeeeeeeep. I have an article about converting one over. |

I'm running a Quick Air 2 which they should have named a "Slow Air 2" when it comes to filling tires.I use my roll cage as an air tank so the compressor won't be coming on all the time when I use my ARB locker. |

I will try to find the web link in the next couple of days (started looking this morning). If I can't find it, I printed it so I have a paper copy. |
