Default Hi-Lift Jacks

Here's a question for people who are familiar with Hi-Lift jacks... Do you have to carry them on the outside of the vehicle, or will they fit inside somehow? Can you saw part of it off without messing it up? TIA.

Yes, you can saw off some of it, but I find my 48" one fits nice alongside the roll bar. I can't seem to get the 60" one inside though. Check out just behind the driver's area. It's just held in with tie down straps, but a more permanent mount could easily be made.

The tire is in the back due to it tearing the stock carrier. I'll make a new one when I make the new rear bumper this spring.

don't saw it off or when you need it to go higher you will regret doing it. a good mounting place in a sami is weld a tube/bar/pipe side ways just behind the seats to the origional bar. the bar will be a good place to attach 4 or 5 pt harness sholder straps but it can also be a good place to make a hi-lift mount. what i have found that works well is get some 1/2" bolts (i believe i used 1/2) and weld the head of them to the new bar so that they are sticking out towards the rear of the sami. you will want to use make sure you weld them so that the bolts line up with holes on the highlift and so that the hi-lift is centered. it is also better to have them so they are on either end of jack too. then i use a rubber bushing that is a tight slip fit over the bolt, put the jack on the bolts, and use a wing nuts to hold it in place. the rubber bushings keep the rattleing down and keep tension on the wing nuts so that they stay tight. this method works really well, gives you a safe place to mount your jack so that you don't have to worry about it popping you in the head if you roll, and it is cheap to do.

Thanks High5, that sounds like what I want to do. I want the jack inside the Zuk so it won't rust. Thanks to everyone who responded.

I hate to see anybody cut their HiLift jack. I keep my 48" HiLift jack inside the cab right behind the front seats on the floor. The idea is not origninal with me. I followed these suggestions. Check out my pics.

Alot of us here In Bedford put our Jacks mounted to the tire carrier. It has save my tailgate from being bashed more than once and it also is easy access.I do not have a spare tire so it was only convenient.I do have a lot of tire patch stuff in my tool box.Not many rocks here to worry about slices.
