Default Towing Mythology

I've heard and read the towing in 2nd gear story so many times I'm going to type this in exactly as it is on page 60 of the Suzuki Samurai owners manual (1986).

Two-wheel towing:
If your vehicle is to be towed by a wrecker, lift the front wheels off the ground, shift the transmission to neutral, the transfer gear to the 2H position and release the parking brake.

4-wheel towing:
Your vehicle may be towed with all four wheels on the ground if the steering and drive train are in good condition. For such towing, unlock the steering, shift the transmission to neutral, transfer gear to the 2H position and release the parking brake. Be sure to use proper towing equipment exclusively designed for this type of towing.

Default Re: Towing Mythology

thats cool, but in the manual for my 88, it says to put the tcase in neutral, and the tranny in second

that way makes more sence anyway... you want as few things to turn as possible... when the tcase in neutral and the tranny in second, the tcase output gears turn, but not the input gear, and not the transmission

with the tcase in 2HI and the tranny in neutral, the tcase outputs and input turns, and the output of the transmission turns, along with all the gears in there turning from the cetrifical force of the spinning output...

makes much more sence to put the tcase in neutral
